So how did it start?

We’ve been thinking about travelling the world for some time, but it always seemed to be too complicated to achieve – not enough time, not enough money etc. However around 2 years we’ve decided that we have to do it by going to work abroad and start saving money for our trip. It actually worked and now we’re ready to start!

Now looking 2 years back it seems that moving to London was an easy thing to do, but it wasn’t that easy. It took some courage to leave family, job, friends here in Vilnius, pack our things and move to London. New country, new job, new rules etc. – that was both interesting and a bit scary. Anyway, after a few weeks we understood that it was the right thing to do. Our savings plan was a bit too optimistic for the beginning, so after a few months we have decided that it should take us ~1,5 year instead of 12 months to achieve our goal and start the trip.

We haven’t been sitting at home and started exploring London almost from the day 1. Museums, buildings, bridges etc. – countless things to see and also countless number of pubs(!) to visit. We also did a few trips outside London to see things like Stonehenge, city of Bath and so on. There were still lots of things to see and to do in UK, but then the opportunity to move to Los Angeles came up.

It sounded really great – moving to sunny California and helping to start business in the US for the company we both worked at (Adform). However the thing was that this was interfering with our plan to work 1,5 year in UK and then start travelling, so we actually said NO(!) to this opportunity in the beginning. It only took a couple of days to change our mind (surprisingly), so we’ve started preparing for that. We already had experience moving to London, so this time it was less scary. It wasn’t the same as moving to London as this time even the flight from Vilnius to Los Angeles took almost one day. So it meant that it won’t be that easy to fly back home to visit family and friends as it was in London, anyway we never regretted it. Find more about our time in California here.
